As the nation returns to holiday celebrations with family and friends this year, the American Red Cross faces historically low blood supply levels not seen in more than a decade. While people gather this holiday season, the Red Cross urges eligible donors to take time out to give blood or platelets for patients in need. The SWHS HOPE Club is proud to present our Winter Blood Drive here at the school on Saturday, January 8th from 8:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. Please consider contributing to this great cause by signing up to donate at the link here: https://www.redcrossblood.org/give.html/drive-results?zipSponsor=swhs20, or by visiting RedCrossBlood.org and entering swhs20 to schedule an appointment. Your contribution will go a long way towards helping someone who is in need of a donation, so let's roll up our sleeves and donate today!

COLLEGE AND CAREER CENTER

South Windsor High School will be administering the ASVAB CEP again this year. The test will be held tomorrow, Wednesday, December 15th at 7:30 a.m. in the Seminar Room. Whether you’re planning to go to college, a vocational school, or the Military, or you’re just not sure what you want to do yet, the ASVAB CEP can provide you with important information about your skills and interests -- and help get you on the right path toward a satisfying career. The test is open to all students in grades 10-12. If you would like to take the ASVAB CEP, please email Mr. Briggs at [email protected] or stop by the School Counseling Office.

There will be another college visit to the Career Center this week. A representative from Long Island University will be here at 12:30 on Friday, December 17th. Students who are interested in attending should sign up in Naviance.

While scholarship season is still gearing up, some programs are available now. The Hartford Foundation for Public Giving scholarship program is underway. The deadline for its first major pool of scholarships is January 11th. There are additional scholarship opportunities with February deadlines. You can find a link to all HFPG scholarships in Naviance. The Big Y scholarship is also open to applicants until February 1st. These are both regional scholarship programs available to SWHS students. If you need help understanding how to find scholarships in Naviance, you may stop in and visit Mrs. Carty in the Career Center any time.
