SCHOOL NEWS

Today marks the first day of Black History Month. Black History Month offers an important opportunity to honor and highlight the accomplishments of Black Americans in history and society, as we continue the study of Black History as American History throughout the year. This event was first celebrated as a week in February of 1926. The week was expanded to a month in 1976 and became officially recognized by the US Government by President Gerald R. Ford. https://www.africanamericanhistorymonth.gov

On this day in 1960, the Greensboro sit-in, an act of nonviolent protest against a segregated lunch counter, occurred in Greensboro, North Carolina. Its success led to a wider sit-in movement, organized by college students and later high school students that spread throughout the south.
