SCHOOL NEWS:

Today for a Black History Month Spotlight, we highlight Connecticut Women's Hall of Famer, Mary Townsend Seymour. Seymour was the spokesperson for Hartford’s chapter of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) in 1917. In 1919 while the fight for the 13th amendment was occurring in the United States, Seymour relentlessly worked to insure black women were not being ignored in the fight for equal voting rights. In her legacy the “Mary Seymour Place” is now open in Hartford to provide supportive housing for women and children.
