SCHOOL NEWS:

Seniors: You are welcome to submit an original poem in honor of graduation to the Grad Poem Contest. Please see Ms. White (room 144) or Ms. Pieratti (room 129 or 131) for more info or find the flyers around school. This is an excellent opportunity to showcase your creativity and contribute to the graduation ceremony itself.
 
The SADD Club’s second annual “BE THE LIGHT” Fun Run/Walk will be held Sunday, May 22, 2022 at 9am at Nevers Road Park. The money raised will support the SADD Club and also the Purple Light Project, which brings attention and support to mental health patients throughout Hartford Healthcare. The $20 participation fee includes a t-shirt and raffle ticket. To register use the QR code on the flyers around the school or head to Eventbrite and search “BE THE LIGHT”.

WMC America Region's Environmental Committee & WMC CT is partnering with SWHS Environmental Club and the Parks & Rec of South Windsor in planting some trees for Arbor Day (April 29th Friday) at a beautiful location in our town as part of Earth Day celebrations. CLUBS AND ACTIVITIES:

Student Council is hoping students, faculty & staff will join the Seniors (and rest of the student body) in "College & Career Spirit Day" on Monday, May 2nd. Seniors make their college decisions by Sunday, May 1st and we encourage you to support them by wearing anything College/Career related to school on Monday. We hope you will kick off the week sporting some spirit supporting our Seniors and their futures post high school. 

COLLEGE AND CAREER CENTER: 

Interested in being a lifeguard this summer? The Summer Place day camp at the University of Hartford is hiring swim counselors. You must be at least 16 years old and they are willing to cover the cost of lifeguard certification. For complete details on pay, dates of employment and how to apply, visit the bulletin board in the Career Center.
 
Any boys in the Class of 2023 who are interested in attending the Connecticut American Legion Boys’ State Leadership Program in June should see Mrs. Carty for application information. This is a free program for boys completing their Junior year of high school who are interested in learning more about leadership, government and problem-solving. In addition to being a hands-on learning experience, it is an honor to be selected to attend.
 
Seniors – there are still a good number of scholarships available and listed in Naviance. Some with upcoming deadlines include: ECHN, South Windsor Rotary Club, South Windsor Little League, William L Perry, the SWAA Perseverance Award, and the South Windsor Girls Travel Basketball Scholarship. All of these scholarships are guaranteed to go to a SWHS graduating Senior. You can find each one, including its criteria and application instructions, in Naviance – or see Mrs. Carty for help finding them
 
ATHLETICS:
 
On Tuesday, Girls Track and Field competed against Tolland.  Congrats to first place finishers: the 4X100 team of Candace Walsh, Susan Otaluka, Sidney Montana, and Audrey Manning, as well as Candace Walsh in the 100, Susan Otaluka in the 200, Grace Smith in the 3200, and Bridget Carrol in triple jump and second place finishers Alyssa Drenga in the 300 hurdles and the 3200, Audrey Manning in the 100, Valerie Turgeon in pole vault, and Sophia McCormack in shot put.
