SCHOOL NEWS: 

The first wave of Capstone presentations is right around the corner, on Wednesday October 12th during the PSAT block. In order to present in this wave, you must have all written work submitted to your adviser’s Google Classroom by Monday October 3rd. All of your work must receive a score of successful or highly successful. You will sign up to present by filling out a Google Form that will be posted on the Capstone Website. A schedule with presentation times and room assignments will be posted on the Capstone Website by Friday October 7th. Students who present during this wave are eligible for an honor cord.
 
All are welcome to the first ever TEDx event at SWHS on Thursday, October 6th in the auditorium. The speakers will be discussing economic inequality through areas such as affordable housing, healthcare, computer, and data science. Please RSVP at tedxsouthwindsor.com. Refreshments will be provided.
 
CLUBS AND ACTIVITIES:

The next meeting of the math team will take place today, September 30th, from 2:15pm until 4:00pm in the Media Center Seminar Room. We will be taking our initial assessment during this time, and the results will be a factor in determining the competition team for our meets this season, so please make every effort to be there.  If you have not yet signed up for our Google Classroom, please join using code 6m6z6p2.  See Mr. Brindisi in Room 265 if you have any questions
 
Unified for Underprivileged Girls is hosting a fundraiser on Friday, October 7th from 4pm to 8pm at a local bakery/restaurant on Hemlock Avenue. All proceeds will be donated to underprivileged girls in Kenya.

Anyone interested in enjoying the outdoors should join the Outing Club for a hike on October 15th to Castle Craig. Permissions slips can be picked up in Room 254 or Room 264 and are due with payment by October 4th. See Ms. Andrews or Mrs. Lynch for questions.
 
COLLEGE AND CAREER CENTER: 

Junior or Senior students interested in attending the United States Senate Youth Program should speak to Mrs. Carty as soon as possible about how to be considered for a school nomination. Two students from Connecticut will ultimately be selected to attend the Washington Week in March. In order to be eligible, students must not have previously attended the program and must be an elected officer of a schoolwide or statewide organization or a student representative selected by a panel, commission, regional or state-level civic or educational organization. Come to the Career Center to indicate your interest, ask any questions, and find out how you can apply to be a SWHS nominee.
