SCHOOL NEWS:

The Class of 2026 will have a fundraiser at a local Mexican restaurant at 48 Hale Road, Manchester on Tuesday, March 7th from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. 

Attention Seniors who missed their scheduled language testing for the Seal of Biliteracy: 
Please attend the makeup session this Monday March 6th at 11:30 a.m. in Room 233 if you would like to pursue the Seal.

Timothy Edwards Middle School ENTERTAINERS proudly presents - Matilda The Musical JR. on the following dates: March 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 2023. General Admission is $10 for students & adults and $5 Seniors (65 & older) and children 5 & younger. Tickets on sale beginning Monday, February 20th at TEMS. March 3rd is the last day to drop off your items for the electronic recycling competition. Items like chargers, computers, ipods, radios, digital cameras etc can be dropped off in the orange bins placed in various Science teachers’ Rooms. This is a competition between classes and the winning class will earn $150 to be used towards major school events.  Freshmen can drop off items to Mrs. Eitel (Room 206). Sophomores can drop off to Mrs. Davies (Room 212), Juniors to Mrs. Howard (Room 250), and Seniors to Mrs. Field (Room 202).

The South Windsor Patriotic Commission essay contest deadline is tomorrow, March 3, 2023. Prizes are awarded for the winner of each grade level band.  Please see your Social Studies teacher or email Mrs. Slogesky, Social Studies Curriculum Specialist, for the contest flier, entry form and additional information, [email protected]. CLUBS AND ACTIVITIES:  

Did you know that Sakura (Sa-ku-RAH)  means cherry blossom in Japan ? In about four weeks, Japan will be filled with blooming Sakura (Sa-ku-RAH), transforming the whole country into a sea of Spring colors.  The Cherry Blossom Festival draws in around 63 million tourists each year. On THURSDAY, March 2nd, the Japanese Club will be making our own Sakura  (Sa-ku-RAH) decorations for our display case. All are welcome to participate and watch anime in room 230 p.m. right after school.

Join the Interact Club’s ”Cooking for a Cause” committee at a local ice cream shop in Evergreen Walk on March 6th from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. Proceeds will be used to purchase food which the committee will cook and donate to the South Park Inn, a local shelter. 
                                                                                                 
Join Interact Club at a local ice cream shop in Evergreen walk on March 6th from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. to raise money for South Park Inn, a homeless shelter in Hartford. A portion of all proceeds will help us raise money to purchase food for the shelter. 

FBLA is selling shamrocks for $1 to benefit the Muscular Dystrophy Association. Each shamrock will be displayed with your name in the FBLA showcase. Purchase a shamrock or make a donation from March 6th thru March 10th.

Interact Club will host a food drive on March 4th from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the grocery store located at 4 corners. All donations will go to local families through the SW Food and Fuel Bank.

COLLEGE AND CAREER CENTER:

An important scholarship reminder to 12th grade students that the deadline for the South Windsor Dollars for Scholars program is less than 2 weeks away! If you have not yet started an application, do not wait any longer – it takes time to complete it accurately. If you have started your application, be sure you have completed ALL sections and check your e-mail frequently for any messages from the local volunteer who makes sure applications are complete. She may have sent you important information about your application status. Keep checking Naviance for other upcoming scholarship opportunities such as the UConn ECE scholarship and the Isidore Wise scholarship for former CCMC patients.

ATHLETICS:  

All students interested in trying out for the baseball team should attend an informational meeting Tuesday, March 7th after school in Room 161. Any questions, please see Mr. D'Amato.
                                                                                                                                                                                                                           
Any girls interested in joining Track and Field who have not participated at the high school level before and did not attend the first meeting should attend an informational meeting from 2:05 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. in Room 127 on Wednesday, March 8th. Please see Ms. McCullough in Room 127 with any questions.

Spring sports registration is open in Powerschool. If you plan on playing a Spring sport, be advised that all registration material is due by March 9th. The 3 items you must submit are (1) Powerschool online registration, (2) Payment of $125 in the form of cash, check or online using www.myschoolbucks.com, and (3) A current Physician Statement dated AFTER  June 1, 2022. Please note that if you submitted a physician statement for a previous sport in the 22-23 school year, you do not need to resubmit one. Your registration is INCOMPLETE until all 3 of these items are submitted to the main office. Registration deadline is March 9th. Registrations submitted after March 9th are not guaranteed to be processed in time for tryouts. Contact the main office with any questions.
