SCHOOL NEWS:

Class Officer and Student Council Officer elections are Thursday, May 18th.  Vote in your class Google Classroom between 7:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m.

On Thursday, May 18th from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m., the South Windsor Registrar of Voters will be holding a Voter Registration Drive in the Lobby of SWHS. There will be an opportunity for eligible individuals to register to vote and to learn about the process of registering. Please reach out to Mrs. Slogesky, Social Studies Curriculum Specialist, with any questions.

An important message for Seniors attending the senior outing or Senior reception: The deadline for bus and table signups is this Wednesday, 5/17. The links for signups are posted in Google Classroom. If you have not signed up or had a table/bus lead sign you up, you will be assigned a bus and/or table at random.

Those Seniors who ordered a graduation lawn sign can pick them up on Wednesday, May 17th any time between 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Pick up location will be outside near the student parking lot. 

On Tuesday May 30th, the Connecticut State treasurer will be visiting South Windsor High School to give a presentation. Interested 11th and 12th grade students, and any member of FBLA may RSVP if they wish to attend this event. If you would like to attend please complete the Google form found on your class’ Google Classroom. RSVPs are due by Wednesday May 17th at 2:00 p.m. We will open 20 total spots to students who are not in finance classes. Sign-up will be on a first come, first serve basis. The event will be held in the Media Center and you will receive confirmation of your acceptance via a note from the office.

CLUBS AND ACTIVITIES:  

Have you wanted to learn how to use the 3D printers in the back of the library? Come to the next FSLA event on Tuesday, May 16th from 2:05 p.m. to 3 p.m. in the back of the Library to learn how! During the event, you will design your own creation and learn how to make it come to life. Sign up is not required; show up, bring a friend, and have fun!

The Strategy Club will meet on Wednesday, May 17, in the back of the Media Center.

Hey Bobcat Foodies!  It's the last Cooking Club of this year, please join us for our final feast!  Here's the menu:  Freckled lemonade, garden salad, garlic knots, pasta bar with three sauces, no-base Funfetti cheesecake, and make your own Sundaes!  Bring $5 to Ms. Cliff for culinary adventures on Thursday, May 18th in Room 105.

Did you know that May is Mental Health Awareness Month? Join the SADD Club as we support the Purple Light Project, which provides basic human needs to those seeking treatment through Hartford Healthcare. ALL South Windsor schools are participating in this important fundraiser. The SADD Club asks that you wear PURPLE on WEDNESDAY, MAY 17TH and also bring in $1. Students can donate during lunch waves. Let’s decrease the stigma of mental health and help our neighbors!

COLLEGE AND CAREER CENTER:

Senator Chris Murphy is sponsoring a Senate page for the fall 2023 semester. Senate pages complete tasks such as delivering correspondence, preparing the Senate chamber for sessions, and delivering bills and amendments to Senate staff. Pages attend classes through an accredited Page School to continue their high school credits while spending the semester in Washington, DC and living in a dormitory setting. Pages must be 16 or 17 and in their Junior year of high school during the time they are working. For complete information on additional criteria and how to apply, please see Mrs. Carty as soon as possible. This is a competitive application process and all materials are due by Friday, May 26th.
