February is Black History Month. Today, Rho Kappa, the National Social Studies Honor Society honors: Billie Holiday. Billie Holiday was one of the first and greatest of American jazz singers. She was a sensation at New York’s famous jazz club, The Apollo, and was nicknamed “Lady Day” by saxophonist Lester Young, with whom she often recorded. Billie was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2000 for her legendary career.

A local medical office is looking for a high school student from the Class of 2019 to work 6-10 hours during the school week with increasing hours for the summer. Candidates should be motivated workers with attention to detail and are expected to be able to work in a professional setting. Attention students who are attending the fashion field trip to the Museum at the Fashion Institute of Technology, new permission slips must be returned by March 1. If you don't have one, please see Mrs. Ziff in Room 7 during homeroom. You can also return signed permission slips to Room 7. Please mark your calendars for a mandatory meeting about the trip on March 27 after school. More details will follow through Google Classroom. 

Did someone say "chocolate"? Join the Cooking Club as we celebrate all things chocolate. Our menu features chocolate mousse, cream puffs, whoopie pies and so much more. Reserve your spot by bringing $5 to Sra. Ruiz in Room 233 by Monday, February 26, and the cooking session is on Wednesday, February 28. We will be taking our yearbook picture then as well!   

Do you like basketball? Or winning prizes? How about having fun? Interact Club is sponsoring a basketball tournament on March 29 from 6:00pm – 9:00pm. Entry is $10 per player and all proceeds go to hurricane relief for Puerto Rico. Pick up your form outside Room 134. Forms and money are due March 5. Questions? The CT State Board of Education has opened their search for two new 2018-19 Student Board Members. Students, appointed by the governor, will serve from July 1, 2018 to June 30, 2019. Any junior interested in applying should look for additional information and the posting in the Career Center. Completed applications must be postmarked on or before April 13.

-Are you a girl interested in Track and Field? Come to an informational meeting after school TODAY or on Tuesday, February 27 in Room 127. See Coach McCullough in Room 127 if you have any questions. 

-ANYONE interested in trying out for SWHS boys’ varsity golf team this spring should attend the mandatory meeting Thursday, March 1 after school from 2:10pm - 2:30pm. Please see Mr. Gray in Room 168 for any additional information or if you can't attend.
