February is Black History Month. Today, Rho Kappa, the National Social Studies Honor Society honors: 
Mae Jemison. Mae Jemison became the first woman of color to travel into space on September 12, 1992 when she rocketed into Earth orbit on an 8 day mission aboard the spacecraft, Endeavor.  Prior to being approved for astronaut training for NASA, Mae was a physician who earned her medical degree from Cornell and served in the Peace Corps in Africa.

Please join the Freshman Class of 2021 for a fundraiser at a local frozen yogurt establishment at the Plaza at Buckland Hills in Manchester tonight from 6-9 pm. See you there.

Final reminder for seniors. IMPORTANT GRADUATION INFORMATION: If you have not yet done so, you must sign up for your cap and gown for graduation.  Please see Mrs. Mazzonna or Ms. Andrews for information.  

The Science Fiction/Fantasy Club will meet Monday in Room 127. Join us for snacks while we watch and discuss Interstellar.  New members are welcome.

Bristol Technical Education Center will hold an Open House on Thursday, March 1 from 5:00 -7:00pm. Students can tour the campus, learn about career & technical programs, and work-based learning opportunities. For more information, visit bristol.cttech.org.
 
Attention Freshmen, Sophomores and Juniors-- Please note that course selection for the 2018-2019 school year will end this Friday, March 2.  Each student in grades 9-11 is requested to sign up for their courses for next year online through their Power School account. Students are to follow the level recommendations made by their current teachers when selecting courses for next year.  Please contact your school counselor if you have any questions/concerns about the course selection process. The student portal will close this Friday at the end of the school day.  

Here are two announcements for fashion students: For those going on the MFIT field trip, the permission slip is due back by tomorrow. After this date, refunds will not be given if you can't attend the trip. For students in Fashion Club, we will be meeting tomorrow after school in Room 7 until 3:00pm. 
 
Anyone interested in Tech Crew or painting for the Spring Play - come to the Project Room in the Media Center on Friday from 2:00pm – 3:00pm. We need you creative and skilled people.

Interact Club is sponsoring a basketball tournament on March 29 from 6:00pm – 9:00pm. Entry is $10 per player and all proceeds go to hurricane relief for Puerto Rico. Pick up your form outside Room 134. Forms and money are due March 5. See Mrs. Howard in Room 134 or find an Interact Officer with questions.

The Mock Trial Team meets today after school Wednesday at 2:15pm in Room 157 to review the competition scores and celebrate the season. Please see Mr. Zeuschner if you cannot attend.

The CT State Board of Education has opened their search for two new 2018-19 Student Board Members.  Students, appointed by the governor, will serve from July 1, 2018 to June 30, 2019.  Any junior interested in applying should look for additional information and the posting in the Career Center. Completed applications must be postmarked on or before April 13.

Athletic News:
-ANYONE interested in trying out for SWHS boys’ varsity golf team this spring should attend the mandatory meeting tomorrow after school from 2:10pm - 2:30pm. Please see Mr. Gray in Room 168 for any additional information or if you can't attend. 

-All winter athletes whose seasons have ended should remove personal belongings from their team rooms by the end of this week. All athletic uniforms should be washed and returned to your coaches.  (2/26, 2/28, f 3/1)
