March is Women’s History Month. Today we honor Octavia Butler. Octavia Butler was a science fiction author who was responsible for writing amazing novels such as Parable of the Talents, Kindred, and Fledging. In 1971 she won the Hugo and Nebula awards for her novella Bloodchild. Along with her impressive list of novels, she was recognized with a MacArthur Foundation Fellowship (AKA the genius grant) for her astonishing writing skills and career. 

Today is the last day to sign up for classes for next school year. Sign up for your courses for next year online through your Power School account. Please contact your school counselor if you have any questions or concerns about the course selection process.

Attention to all students who drive to school: Only students with a parking pass may park in the main high school parking lot. All other drivers must park at Dupree. Students are not permitted to park at Wapping or the Community Center.

We will be opening parking spots to all juniors and seniors on Monday, March 5. All required paperwork must be submitted along with a complete application in order to be accepted. Spaces are limited and will be processed on a first come first served basis. The cost is $40.

Did you know that more than 15 percent of people in Puerto Rico still remain in the dark nearly six months after Hurricane Maria? Puerto Rico has begun the long road of recovery. You can help and have fun at the same time. Interact Club is sponsoring a basketball tournament on March 29 from 6:00pm – 9:00pm. There will be prizes, snacks, and fun. Forms are available outside Room 134 and are due to Mrs. Howard by March 5. If you have questions, please see Mrs. Howard in Room 134 or see an Interact Officer. 

The Science Fiction/Fantasy Club will meet Monday in Room 127. Join us for snacks while we watch and discuss Interstellar. New members are welcome.

Attention sophomores and juniors…. the Capital Region Education Council (CREC) is looking for students interested in their CRILA leadership academy. This prestigious academy meets monthly throughout the 2018-19 school year and its purpose is to train students towards becoming more effective leaders through various trainings and exercises. In addition, there is a 7 day camping trip in Maine this June for those accepted. If interested in applying or getting more details, please visit Mr. Wry in School Counseling. 

Athletic News:
Attention spring athletes: sports paperwork is due MONDAY in order to be eligible for the first day of tryouts.  If you have any questions, see Mrs. Jelly in the Main Office during lunch waves.

All students interested in trying out for the baseball team should attend an informational meeting after school Monday, March 5 in Room 161. Any questions, please see Mr. D'Amato. 

All winter athletes whose seasons have ended should remove personal belongings from their team rooms by the end of TODAY. All athletic uniforms should be washed and returned to your coaches.

Attention all boys interested in trying out for the Boys Volleyball team this month. There will be a brief informational meeting about the tryouts and season on Monday March 12 at 2:15pm in Room 111. If you have any questions, see Coach Holt in the Women's PE office.
