On Monday, February 1st from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. the high school will be open for material pick up for distance learning students. Distance Learning students taking semester classes may need to pick up textbooks and other materials for Semester 2 classes, and may drop off textbooks from Semester 1 classes. Teachers will communicate with their students if they have something that needs to be picked up. Additionally, if you have not picked up your Student ID those will be available as well. Material pick up will be conducted in the lobby. When entering the high school please wear a mask and observe social distancing at all times.

NHS is helping collect various items to benefit Camp Kesem, a national network that provides free, week-long summer camps for children impacted by a parent’s cancer. We are collecting arts and crafts supplies, office supplies, and toys. Please see the flyer for details, as they are looking for specific items! Items can be placed in the box in the hallway outside the cafeteria until Friday, January 29th.

Seniors and Parents/Guardians of Seniors: The yearbook staff is looking for pictures from ALL four years of your high school experience. Many of these will go on a special spread in the senior section of the book. See the yearbook page on the website for more information.

Seniors: Are you looking to wrap up your Capstone Project soon? New this year, we are offering rolling Capstone presentations every Thursday and Friday throughout the month of February. In order for you to present, you must have turned in all written work to your adviser and have received a successful on all written work. Your adviser will then reach out to the Capstone coordinators to schedule a rolling presentation. You will be notified of your presentation date, time and Google Meet link via your school email. If you have any questions please contact your adviser. 

Seniors: If you are still trying to complete your Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), you can get help at a FAFSA completion workshop offered by CONNTAC on February 7th from 1:30-4:30 p.m. in Hartford. Virtual appointments are also available. For complete details, visit the school counseling blog, or the big screen outside the school counseling office.
 
Seniors: You are strongly encouraged to check out scholarships with upcoming February 1st deadlines. Log into your Naviance account and sort the scholarship list by deadline to find the Big Y, Joyce Picard, and Julie Veilleux scholarships. All are local funds, and the Picard and Veilleux scholarships are for South Windsor students only (other more specific criteria apply). Contact Mrs. Carty if you have any questions about scholarship searches.

In Honor of Black History Month, the SWPS Equity Council presents: Calvin Terrell on Tuesday, February 2nd at 6:00 p.m. The program is entitled “Black to the Future, a Path of Perseverance” which there will be a discussion related to fluent language around race, racial intersections with all identities, implicit bias, white dominances, and community building. The zoom link can be found on the website. This is a SW community event – all are welcome!
