The Importantce of Mental Health for Athletes

Mental health can be defined as a person’s condition in regard to their physiological, mental and emotional well-being.

Good mental health is having the ability to be able to fulfill daily activities, hobbies and/or routines with pleasure, and not to feel as if it is a struggle to take on daily tasks.

Major changes in eating habits
Losing interest in hobbies/activities you use to look forward to
Not wanting to get out of bed/low energy
Feeling as if nothing you do is good enough
Constant negative thoughts -
- Write down your feelings in a journal
- Talk to one of the school psychologists
- Do things that benefit your well being: Go for a walk, Exercise, Draw, Talk about your feelings with a family member/friend or someone you trust
- Make time for things that make you happy: Listen to music, Spend time with your family/friends, Go outside, Spend time with pets, Relax your mind, Consume your mind with positive thoughts

Morgan's Message
In collaboration with
Morgan's Message is a national mental health in athletes organization working to eliminate the stigma surrounding student athlete mental health. Our SWHS chapter hosts meetings combined with the SADD club discussing mental health as well as dedication games at various sporting events throughout the year.
The Students Against Destructive Decisions (SADD) Club is an organization that focuses on education, prevention and advocacy. We tackle issues like distracted driving, drug and alcohol prevention and positive school climate. We are dedicated to preventing destructive decisions of all kinds.
Meetings are held 2-3 times per month at 7am before school. Active participation is required. Please view the clubs and activities list for more details and the classroom code.
