SCHOOL NEWS:
Are you planning on submitting your writing to contests this year? Were you a part of the UConn Writing Project group at TE? Do you love to write? The UConn Writing Project and Scholastic Writing Awards are great opportunities for your writing to be recognized! Join the Writing Center's Contest Crew this year and you will have a chance to work on your submissions with like-minded writers and tutors. Our first meeting is Monday 11/17 at 2:05 in Room 122B. Attention Seniors! Are you committed to play a sport in college? If you’d like to be recognized in an upcoming Signing Ceremony, please connect with Mr. Wry in the Counseling Office.
SWHS Drama is presenting "Once Upon a Mattress" on Friday evening and for two shows on Saturday. Tickets are $5 for students and $10 for adults and can be purchased both online and at the door. Look for flyers around school or the link on the school website.
Help Chef Fill the Box! FCCLA and the culinary students are challenging you to fill the two GIANT boxes outside of Annex Room 11 and in the Main Lobby with non-perishable food items by November 17th! Take a selfie of yourself donating to the box and email it to Chef Sullivan to get a raffle ticket entry. One winner will be chosen for a Crumbl Cookie Gift Certificate. If we complete the challenge of filling BOTH boxes by Monday the 17th, we will pull 3 additional winners for local business gift cards. This is a great opportunity to help out our neighbors and feed hungry mouths in our community.
CLUBS AND ACTIVITIES:
Mark your calendars on Friday, November 21st from 4 to 8pm for the annual Volleyball Marathon hosted by South Windsor for the Local Kids!
SIGN UPS ARE THIS WEEK, AND THIS WEEK ONLY. Create teams of 6-12 people at a cost of $15 per person for a chance to win prizes. Be sure to grab a flyer during lunch and return it with payment by this upcoming Friday. Bring money to enter a raffle for a parking pass, gift cards and more. All proceeds go to Connecticut Children's Medical Center.
Want to make a real impact in the world of advocacy? Join the NF Student Alliance at our next meeting on Friday, November 15 from 2:00-2:30pm in room 148 to learn more about advocating for rare diseases. Hope to see you there!
The 1st 3D Print Club meeting is this Monday, November 17th, after school from 2:15-3 in the Library. Learn how to use the Library's 3D printers and start printing right away. Join our Google Classroom, code u4ffj5ym, for further information or ask Ms. Fielding in the Library.
The HOPE club is having their November meeting on Thursday November 20 after school in Room 207. Come hang out with others who are interested in medical careers while learning about the digestive system and practicing real medical skills. See flyers posted around the school for more information.
DECA will be collecting gently used coats from November 10th - November 21st. Look for our donation boxes at the Annex and in the Front Lobby of the High School. Coats will be dry cleaned and delivered to those in need. See Mrs. Barrett at the Annex with any questions.
Puzzle Society is meeting on Wednesday September 19th from 2-3pm in room 223. New members are always welcome! Join the google classroom with the code evndcsx.
ATHLETICS:
Interested in trying out for girl's basketball or want to learn more about the team? There is a pre-season meeting on Wednesday, November 19th, right after school in Room 124. See Coach Goslin with questions. In addition, Girls basketball open gym starts next week! Anyone interested in trying out is welcome. Girls Basketball Open Gym times will be as follows:
Monday at 2:15, Wednesday at 3:00 pm, Friday at 2:15, and the final open gym will be Monday November 24th at 2:15.
Boys Basketball open gym times have been changed to 4pm- 6pm on the following dates: November 10, 12, 17 and 19.
