SCHOOL NEWS:
It’s time for “this date in history.” On January 12, 1957, Mary Townshend Seymour passed away in her hometown of Hartford, CT. Her lifelong dedication to civil rights included working with underprivileged women in Hartford, helping establish the Hartford chapter of the NAACP, and helped bring about a local chapter of the Red Cross dedicated to assisting black Veterans returning home from military service. Today, her grave in Hartford’s Old North Cemetery is an honored spot on the Connecticut Freedom Trail. Thanks for listening to this date in history.
