It’s time for “this date in history.” On February 18, 1930 Pluto, once believed to be the ninth planet, was discovered at the Lowell Observatory in Flagstaff, Arizona. On February 18, 1954, David Mullaney of Fairfield, Connecticut filed a patent for his innovative “game ball” which was later renamed as the infamous “Wiffle Ball” in reference to how easy it was for pitchers to control their throws in ways that may make the batter whiff. Due to its popularity, Mullaney moved his production factory to Shelton, Connecticut where the Wiffle Ball, Inc. still exists. To this day, every single Wiffle ball produced has been done so out of the state of Connecticut. Also on this date in 1931, author Toni Morrison was born and in 1965, rapper and entrepreneur Dr. Dre was born. Thanks for listening to this date in history.
