It’s time for “this date in history.” On March 6, 1964, American boxer Cassius Clay took the name Muhammad Ali as inspired by his spiritual mentor, Elijah Muhammad. On March 6, 1981 Journalist Walter Cronkite, known as “the most trusted man in America,” signed off as the longtime anchor of CBS Evening News. Famous birthdays on this date include actor Lou Costello, TV show host Ed McMahon, film director Rob Reiner, and basketball player Shaquille O’Neal. Thanks for listening to this date in history.
If you're planning to take the SAT, NHS is holding a review session to go over exam-taking strategies and practice problems. It will be held on March 9 in Mrs. Leone's classroom (room 204) from 2:15-3:15. Snacks will be provided.
Mu Alpha Theta is getting ready for “Pie the Principal” and more for Pi Day! During lunch waves on 3/13, you can donate $1 in order to add whipped cream to a “pi” that will pie a teacher.
CLUBS AND ACTIVITIES:
Interested in honing your creative writing skills or just having fun? The Writing Club is hosting the first annual “Ideas in Ink,” an after-school writing extravaganza. If you enjoy writing stories, poems, or just getting your ideas on paper, this is the place for you! Come join us in the Library on Mondays March 9th, 16th, 23rd, and 30th from 2:15 to 3:30, where we will be hosting a variety of writing-related games each week, some with prizes. Whether you love writing, want to improve, or just want to hang out, Ideas in Ink has something here for you! Posters are on bulletin boards and ELA classrooms for more information.
HOPE club will be hosting our final blood drive of the year on Friday, March 13th in the Media Center. It is an ODD day and appointments are available from 7:45am to 12:30pm. This is a great opportunity to save three lives and get free snacks! You must be 17 years or older to donate; 16 year olds can donate with a parent permission slip. NHS’s Clothing Drive Committee is hosting a dress clothing drive from February 23rd to March 13th in the main building and annex lobbies. Please consider donating your gently worn homecoming/prom dresses for a good cause! Contact Nishi Bhambure with any questions
Due to the upcoming weather, Indian Heritage Awareness Club will reschedule our Holi Celebration for March 18th at the Annex field near the playground from 2:15-3:30. Now there's plenty of time to get tickets for you and your friends! Tickets: $5 – Regular admission, $7 – Admission + a white t-shirt (perfect for the color celebration!)
ATHLETICS:
Anyone interested in trying out for the Varsity boys golf team this spring needs to attend a short informational meeting on Wednesday,March 11th, after school in Room 168. If you're planning on trying out for the team and can't attend this meeting you need to connect with Coach Gray in Room 168 before the March 11th meeting to be eligible
