It’s time for “this date in history.” On March 12, 1776, a public notice appeared in local papers of Baltimore, Maryland recognizing the sacrifices and contributions of women towards the revolution–this notice urged others to take notice. On March 12, 1888, Connecticut experienced what became known as the “Great White Hurricane”, a three day blizzard that ranks as the worst recorded blizzard in Connecticut history. By the time the snow had stopped on March 14th, some towns in our state reported nearly 50 inches of snow! On this date in 1894, Coca Cola was sold in glass bottles for the first time. On this date in 1933, President Franklin Roosevelt delivered his first fireside chat, the first of many radio addresses he provided for Americans. And on this date in 1993, Janet Reno was sworn in as US attorney general, becoming the first woman to hold the office. Thanks for listening to this date in history.
