SCHOOL NEWS:
It’s time for “this date in history.” On March 13, 1852 Uncle Sam first appeared on the pages of New York Lantern Weekly. On this date in 1942, the U.S. Army began training dogs for its newly established War Dog Program, known as the “K-9 Corps.” Trained dogs were used as sentries, patrol dogs, messenger dogs, or mine-detection dogs during World War Two. On this date in 1992, the famous comedy My Cousin Vinny was released. Finally, on this date in 2004, American tennis star Coco Gauff was born–she won the US Open in 2023 at the age of 19 and two years later won the French Open. Thanks for listening to this date in history.
