SCHOOL NEWS:
It’s time for “this date in history.” On March 16, 1751, James Madison was born. Nicknamed the “Father of the Constitution”, Madison was an integral part of the nation’s early years and would go on to serve as its fourth president. On March 16, 1802, the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, New York was founded as a training center for the U.S. Corps of Engineers. Also on this date in 1850, American author Nathaniel Hawthorne’s The Scarlet Letter was published. Finally, on March 16, 1978, Connecticut adopted “Yankee Doodle” as its official state song.
