SCHOOL NEWS:
It’s time for “this date in history.” Happy St. Patrick’s Day! Beginning on March 17, 1762, New York has hosted one of the world’s largest parades on St. Patrick’s Day. After New York, the city to have the next largest St. Patrick’s parade in the United States is in Savannah, Georgia. On this date in 1962, the city of Chicago began an annual tradition of coloring the Chicago River green using a special dye to help recognize St. Patrick’s Day and it is one of the biggest traditions commemorating the occasion. Famous birthdays on this date include singer Nat King Cole, actors Kurt Russell, Gary Sinise, and Rob Lowe, and retired soccer sensation Mia Hamm. Thanks for listening to this date in history.
