March 18, 2026
SCHOOL NEWS:
It’s time for “this date in history.” On March 18, 1766, the British Parliament repealed the infamous Stamp Act of 1765 after protests by American colonists. However, on the same day the British Parliament passed the Declaratory Acts stating that the British government had free and total legislative power over the colonies. Alas, that did not turn out well for England. Switching gears, on this date in 1925, the “Tri-State Tornado”, the deadliest in U.S. history struck eastern Missouri, southern Illinois, and southern Indiana. Responsible for nearly 700 deaths, and thousands of injuries, it caused nearly $17 million dollars in damage at the time (roughly $315 million dollars in today’s money). On a lighter note in pop culture, on this date in 1965 the Pillsbury Doughboy was unveiled and has been in over 600 commercials to date. Famous birthdays on this date include 24th president Grover Cleveland, singer and actress Queen Latifah, singer Adam Levine, and actress Ciara Bravo. Thanks for listening to this date in history.
