SCHOOL NEWS:
It’s time for “this date in history.” On March 19, 1918 President Woodrow Wilson signed the Standard Time Act establishing Daylight Savings Time in the U.S. On this date in 1931, Nevada legalized gambling in an attempt to help lift the state out of its Depression era woes. In pop culture, the Hasbro company officially recognizes March 19, 1935 as the anniversary date of the famous game of Monopoly–the game is licensed in 13 countries and printed in 37 different languages. On March 19, 1953, NBC aired the Academy Awards for the first time. Famous birthdays on this date include actress Glenn Close, actor Bruce Willis, and football coach Andy Reid. Student Council is excited to host Trivia Night on Friday, March 27th, from 6- 8 PM in the cafeteria! Doors open: 5:30 PM, Trivia begins promptly: 6:00 PM. Teams & Sign-Ups: $5 per person, up to 5 people per team. Trivia is open to students, staff, and faculty. Have your team captain collect all dues and sign your team up in the Cafeteria (see the sign-up area). Your entire team must be paid in full to register. Prizes & Raffles will be happening all night!
There is limited space: Only 40 teams - so don’t wait! Your team can Early Sign-Up Bonus Points depending on how early you sign up. Questions? See Mrs. Stewart in Room 166.
On Saturday, March 15 Choral Spectrum, Spectrum Band, and Spectrum Road Crew traveled to Bishop Hendricken High School to compete in the annual "Lil Rhody Rumble". Spectrum was once again awarded a gold medal and placed first runner-up overall. Spectrum Band completed its first undefeated season with three total "best band" awards this year. Spectrum Road Crew was awarded the "Best Crew" award for the second consecutive year. And senior student leader Kaleigh Aparo was named outstanding performer from Choral Spectrum. Congratulations to everyone involved on another amazing season!
CLUBS AND ACTIVITIES:
Come support SWHS Unicef Club’s fundraiser at Hot Table on March 23rd from 4pm-8pm.
The National Honor Society is happy to offer peer tutoring to the SWHS community. Please see the flyers posted around the school and below this posting.
Please join us for the next Italian Club meeting right after school on Thursday, March 26th in Annex Room 35. Snacks will be provided and the meeting is free to all.
ATHLETICS:
Attention student-athletes: SWHS will host another College Athletics Signing Ceremony on May 11 at 12:00 PM in the Auditorium. If you have committed to play a college sport and have not already participated in the December ceremony, please See Mr. Wry for details.
