April 2, 2026
SCHOOL NEWS:
Attention staff and students - the cupcake wars originally scheduled for Thursday at 2PM has been postponed. More information will be sent out next week with an update.
It’s time for “this date in history.” On April 2, President Woodrow Wilson asked the U.S. Congress for a declaration of war against Germany. Receiving approval, the U.S. was soon a part of World War One. Coincidentally, Jeannette Rankin, the first woman ever elected to Congress, entered the U.S. Capitol representing Montana on this same date–she was one of 50 representatives who voted against joining the war. In pop culture, 2001: A Space Odyssey premiered in Washington, DC on April 2, 1968 and would have a huge inspiration on sci-fi films. On April 2, 1978, the evening soap opera Dallas debuted as a five-part miniseries on American TV. It became a long running series and revolutionized prime time dramas. Thanks for listening to this date in history.
