SCHOOL NEWS:
It’s time for “this date in history.” On April 27, 1777, a little known but important American Revolution battle was won in Connecticut–it is known as the Battle of Ridgefield. Patriot troops drove back British troops and inflicted significant damage to the British side in the only inland battle fought on Connecticut land during the American Revolution. Ironically, the Patriots were led by Benedict Arnold who would later become famously known as a traitor backing the British cause. Also on this date in 1865, the worst maritime disaster in US History when the steamboat Sultana exploded leading to the loss of approximately 1,700 passengers including many Union soldiers returning home from the Civil War. In the field of technology, on this date in 1981, Xerox became the first company to include a mouse with its Xerox 8010 Star computer. Famous birthdays on this date include the 18th President of the United States Ulysses S. Grant and American inventor Samuel Morse. Thanks for listening to this date in history.
