SCHOOL NEWS:
It’s time for “this date in history.” On May 7, 1915, a German submarine sank the Lusitania, a British cruiseliner that also had American passengers. Nearly 130 Americans were lost and the event indirectly led to U.S. entrance in World War One a couple of years later. On May 7, 1992, the 27th Amendment received the necessary votes after the state of Michigan ratified it–this amendment concerned the salary increases to the U.S. Congress members. On May 7, 2009, Catherine Ralston, a 12-year old, received the title of “Baker of the Year” after participating in an Easy-Bake Oven baking competition. Her winning creation was a “Queen of Hearts Strawberry Tart.” The iconic Easy-Bake Oven sold over 500,000 units in its launch year of 1963 by the company Kenner, now known as Hasbro. Thanks for listening to this date in history.
