SCHOOL NEWS:
Attention students attending Senior Reception:
In order to attend student activities such as Senior Reception, students must be in school for at least 50% of the class periods that day. Students who arrive at 7:25 are eligible to be dismissed at 10:05 (after period 4). A link to a google form will be emailed to parents this week. Please make sure your parents complete this form in order to grant you permission to be dismissed from school early.
For those students who arrive after 7:25, please be advised that it is important for you to be in school for at least half of the school day in order for your attendance at reception to be in good standing. Failure to do so may prohibit your ability to attend. Advisors and administrators will be checking attendance throughout the day to ensure that all students attending reception meet these requirements.
Senior Reception will be held at the Marriott in Windsor, CT. All students will have their bags checked upon entry into the venue.
Please know, the latest students can enter Reception is 7:00 PM. Any student(s) arriving after that time will not be permitted. In addition, once students decide to leave reception for the night, they will not be readmitted.
It’s time for “this date in history.” On May 28, 1788, the Federalist papers–a collection of 85 essays on the proposed new Constitution and on the nature of republican government, were published in book form. Famously written by Alexander Hamilton, James Madison, and John Jay, these were iconic writings associated with the beginnings of the new American republic. On May 28, 1919, the Connecticut Woman Suffrage Association (CWSA) launched a statewide campaign to reach every Connecticut woman of voting age to prepare them for their newly acquired civic duties, specifically voting. This occurred days after The U.S. House of Representatives voted in favor of a constitutional amendment giving women the right to vote. Eventually, this led to the 19th Amendment which was ratified in August of 1920. On May 28, 1957, baseball owners unanimously voted to allow the New York Giants and Brooklyn Dodgers to San Francisco and Los Angeles, respectively. Speaking of the San Francisco Giants, on this date in 2006, Barry Bonds hit his 715th home run as a Giant surpassing Babe Ruth for second place. He would eventually become the home run leader with 762 home runs. Thanks for listening to this date in history.
