SCHOOL NEWS
It’s time for “this date in history.” On September 30, 1889, the Wyoming state convention approved a constitution which included a provision granting women the right to vote making it the first state in the nation to allow women to vote. On September 30, 1918, President Woodrow Wilson gave a speech to Congress on the very same topic, in favor of guaranteeing women the right to vote. Not too long after, the 19th amendment was adopted granting all women the right to vote. On September 30, 1927, Babe Ruth became the first baseball player to hit 60 home runs in a season. The record held for several decades until it was broken by Roger Maris in 1961. Speaking of baseball, on September 30, 1947, the first game of a World Series was broadcast on TV when the New York Yankees took on the Brooklyn Dodgers. Coincidentally, September 30th was also the date that the first college football game aired on TV in 1939. Thanks for listening to this date in history.
